Documenting Housing Discrimination
Dear Mr. Dayton,
Here for the record are some of the recent emails I have received regarding my housing at the Ordway Crane apartments where I was supposed to be already approved because I was working with a social worker.
Marginalization is being Cut-off from Opportunities that Others can Easily Access.
Marginalization is the foundation of patriarchal Apartheid.
Please Help me.
Thank you.
Linda Ophoenix.

Ally is out of town. Her boss who runs the referrals was out of town the previous week. Don't worry Linda. ___We got you.__

Linda,
I am writing to inform you that your application at Crane Ordway Apartments has been denied due to adverse rental history. If you would like a copy of the background check which lead to this decision, please contact Rental History Reports at 352-545-3956 and provide this file number: 17433B. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at this email or by calling 651-224-4710.

That "rental history" was disclosed to you from the beginning....and that is why I am working with Jeff Jorgensen of Social Services.
Below is the email from him that I received on August 20th. I am supposed to be applying under the "section 4" regulations of your requirements for a Renter, whereby a homeless person who does not meet the requirements in section 4 and is working with social services can get an apartment without meeting the requirement.
Did you forget talking to me about this? I have the information...I read it also.
What's up???????
There must be a mistake.

Hi Jeff,
Did you actually Talk to Allison? This is what she sent me at 1:37 yesterday below (forwarded) in reply to my message with the attachments (letter of explanation and the doctor's confirmation of my forced clitorectomy....my reason for needing a safe space in a security building.
I had already given notice to the owner of the Youth Hostel that it could be "any day now" after she said it would take "a day to a week" for the paper work and you assured me that you had me covered....and he is getting antsy...asking me all the time when I am moving.
"Look into other options" ....after 4 months of promises...with a the Hostel manager expecting me to leave any day....and being overburdened for rent....sounds like I am being driven to being homeless for the winter in Minnesota.
I meet all the qualifications in their Information regarding Resident Selection Criteria for section 7 (Which exempts a resident from needing to qualify for the criteria under section 4 regarding Rental and Background History) ....I just need to continue to participate with Social Services in order to qualify for CONTINUING Occupancy at Crane Ordway. If I rescind my permission to give a release of information to them about my participation with Social Services, then I would have to qualify under Section 4 or my lease could be terminated with a 30 day notice. If my Social Services provider feels I no longer need services, written proof must be provided.
"This is what I do....get homes for the homeless"---Jeff Jorgensen
That's what you told me that first day we met in April. I am looking at Autumn and no home yet in Minnesota. Again.
You have shown me an apartment...they said a day to a week....you got me...don't worry.
What is holding this up?
Discrimination against my sexual orientation at some level of the process?
Linda Ophoenix.

We are unable to make final determinations until we see the background check. Your rental history includes police calls to a former address.

I'm sorry about the situation and I completely understand your frustration too. I'm frustrated as well. I suggest that we meet in person and discuss some options. I have some ideas, but again I think it would be best to discuss it in person. I can meet with you next week. I am available Tuesday afternoon and early Thursday morning or anytime Friday. Let me know what works best for you.
Jeff
